Abstract
Integrated R&D laboratory systems of the 20th century are giving way to more vertically disintegrated networks of innovation that connect numerous companies into ecosystems. Since innovation policy ultimately rests on the activities and initiatives of the private sector, it is vital that policy follows this evolution.

Abstract:

In the report we explore these aspects of open innovation practices. The point of departure is the current notion of open innovation and the subsequent attempts made at transforming this firm-level management concept into more global perspectives on innovation and growth. While contributing to a more nuanced theoretical conceptualisation of open innovation, our main contribution is the large-scale empirical analysis (130,000 firms from 22 European countries) of open innovation impacts and determinants which have been conducted based on the pan-European Community Innovation Survey. In light of this material, an extensive survey of current and relevant policy measures is provided. The overall aim of the conceptual, empirical, and policy components of the report is to promote the emergence of a new policy discussion in the area of open innovation.

European Union, 2013

Abstract:

This yearbook Open Innovation 2013 (with the sub- theme ‘Open Innovation 2.0’) follows the series of Service Innovation yearbooks published in 2009–10 and Open Innovation 2012. The yearbooks have three complementary parts: (i) policy development; (ii) trends and weak signals in service innovation; and (iii) insight into cases and open innovation development in countries and regions.

The first part of this yearbook describes the new innovation and research policy approach to the forthcoming Horizon 2020 framework, namely the mash-up and holistic approach, new innovation- supporting instruments such as open and disrup- tive innovation, SME instruments as well as more take-up-oriented innovation procurement-oriented instruments.

The second part of this yearbook focuses strongly on open innovation ecosystems. The context of smart(er) cities is interlinked with open innovation both conceptually and through examples in real settings. The challenge is change and transforma- tion towards a smarter city, which is more participa- tive, inclusive and empowering, instead of an imagi- nary ideal future vision.

Abstract:

The 2014 edition of the Open Innovation 2.0 Year- book highlights new trends in innovation, delves deeper behind the buzzwords and tries to give a good overview of what actually is going on.

This edition of the yearbook is divided in three sections in order to be better accessible and com- prehensive. The first section is called Open Innov ation 2.0: The big picture, and is based on the White Paper from the Open Innovation 2.0 Confer- ence 2013, which was updated to correspond the current situation and trends. This paper together with the Dublin Innovation Declaration (bit.ly/ OI2DublinDeclaration) is a sound basis for modern innovation understanding and actions.

The second section, named The European setting, illustrates the European perspectives on innovation from institutional and ecosystem standpoint. The special topics in this section are touching the after- math of the financial crisis, and also youth engage- ment to innovation.

The third section is highlighting the best practises of open innovation in real world cases — Open Innovation 2.0 in a realworld setting. Here we talk about Open Ecosystems, Big Data, Youth Innov- ation, Smart Cities and two very special, but inter- esting, topics on Lawyers in Innovation as well as Drivers for Creativity Based on Humor!
