Kick-off meeting of the OI-Net project  - The European academic network on Open Innovation

How to reach Lappeenranta:

  • From Helsinki airport:
  • To reach Tikkurila railway station from Helsinki airport, a direct bus 61 from the airport (Lentoasema) to Tikkurila railway station leaves every 10-15 minutes and takes about 20-25 minutes (depending on the route).
  • Alternatively, you can go from the airport to the Helsinki railway station (Rautatientori) by bus 615 or by Finnair bus, which takes 35-45 minutes (depending on the route). Usually you have to be in Helsinki railway station about 15 min. earlier than in Tikkurila railway station to catch the same train.
  • By train:
    • VR trains travelling in the direction to Joensuu stop at Lappeenranta from Helsinki or from Tikkurila (closest train station from Helsinki airport). There are plenty of trains, and the journey from Helsinki takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes, and about 2 hours from Tikkurila. Please note that there are no trains which depart late at night.
    • To plan your train trip : www.vr.fi/en/index.html (Note: you can buy the online ticket directly from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Lappeenranta; the ticket will include the bus 61 to Tikkurila train station)
  • By car (see further directions on LUT's website)

From Lappeenranta's airport: 
From the city, by bus
  • Remark: transport is also arranged by LUT for the conference activities (see timing and localisation in the programme of the conference)
  • Lappeenranta University of Technology is seven kilometres from Lappeenranta's city centre, at Skinnarilankatu 34, 53850 Lappeenranta.
  • Local bus number 5 goes to the university from the central bus station (matkakeskus) via the city centre. Bus numbers 1 and 3 also run between the university and the city centre.
  • Bus number 5 leaves from the city centre for the university at 10 and 40 minutes past the hour. Bus number 1 leaves at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.
  • From the university to the city centre, bus number 5 leaves on the hour and 30 minutes past the hour. Bus number 1 leaves at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.
